Transverse strength calculator
Insert the values of breaking load, average distance, and diameter to get the transverse strength
Transverse Strength Calculator
Transverse strength calculator is used to calculate the transverse strength of a material.
What is meant by transverse strength?
A measurement of a stone bar's ability to support a load at its center while being supported at both ends. Strength of a specimen assessed in transverse bending; often referred to as breaking load and typically interchangeable with rupture modulus
D = 8PL / πd3
where
- P = Breaking Load
- L = Average Distance
- d = Diameter
How to calculate the transverse strength?
Example 1
Calculate the transverse strength when breaking load = 12, average distance = 15, and diameter = 20.
Solution
Transverse Strength (D) =?
P = 12, L = 15, d = 20
D = 8PL / πd3
By putting Values in the above formula:
D = 8*12*15 / 3.14*(20)3
D = 1440 / 3.14*8000
D = 1440 / 25120
D = 0.0573248
Example 2:
Calculate the transverse strength when breaking load = 32, average distance = 12, and diameter = 42.
Solution
Transverse Strength (D) =?
P = 32, L = 12, d = 42
D = 8PL / πd3
By putting Values in the above formula:
D = 8*32*12 / 3.14*(42)3
D = 3072 / 3.14*74088
D = 3072 /232636.32
D = 0.0132052
