Percentage Change Calculator

Percentage Change Calculator is used to find the increasing or decreasing of percentage between two values. The percentage change calculator provides a step-by-step solution.

What is the percentage change?

Percentage change mean is a measure of the relative difference between two values indicated as a percentage. It represents the difference between a final value and an initial value (two values at different points in time) in terms of a percentage of the initial value.

Formula of percentage change

Percentage Change = [(Final value – Initial value)/ initial value] x 100

If,

  • Final value = V2
  • Initial Value = V1

The formula of Percentage Change becomes.

Percentage Change = [(V2 – V1)/ V1] x 100

Note:

A negative sign of the percentage change value shows that the percentage decreases between the two values and a Positive sign shows the percentage increases between the two values.

How to calculate percentage change?

In this section, we discussed examples of the percentage change.

 Example 1:

If the final value is 2000 and the initial value is 1500 then find the percentage change.

Solution:

Step 1: Write the data.

V2 = 2000, V1 = 1500,

Percentage Change =?

Step 2: Write the Formula of Percentage Change.

Percentage Change = [(V2 – V1)/ V1] x 100

Step 3: Put the values in the above formula and simplify.

V2 = 2000, V1 = 1500

= [(2000 – 1500)/ 1500] x 100

= [500/ 1500] x 100

= 0.33 x 100

= 33.00 %

Percentage Change = 33.00 % (increases)

Example 2:

If a city's population increases from 100,000 to 120,000, then find the increases percentage change.

Solution:

Step 1: Write the data.

V2 = 120000, V1 = 100000

Percentage Change =?

Step 2: Write the Formula of Percentage Change.

Percentage Change = [(V2 – V1)/ V1] x 100

Step 3: Put the values in the above formula and simplify.

V2 = 120000, V1 = 100000

 = [(120000 – 100000)/ 100000] x 100

 = [20000 / 100000] x 100

 = 0.20 x 100

 = 20 %

Percentage Change = 20 % (Increases)
