Kinematic Viscosity Calculator
Kinematic Viscosity Calculator is a tool that is used to find the density of the fluid by using the kinematic and dynamic viscosity of the fluid. Density is the property of the fluid which tells how much the fluid is viscous or how fast it flow.
What is Viscosity?
Viscosity is the resistance of the fluid that is felt in its flow freely. It also tells how much fluid is poured and how to respond when external force is applied to it. On the other hand, viscosity is a property of fluids as well as liquids and gases.
It is present in fluids and gases due to the cohesive forces between molecules. When the cohesive forces are very strong then the viscosity of the fluid is very high and its flow rate is very low.
While, if the forces are weak then it shows its viscosity is very low and the flow rate is high. Viscosity can vary with the increase or decrease of temperature, pressure, and the presence of impurities.
While dynamic viscosity measures the resistance to flow under applied shear stress and kinematic viscosity considers the ratio of dynamic viscosity to the fluid's density.
Formula:
ρ = μ/v
Where,
- ν = kinematic viscosity of the fluid
- μ = dynamic viscosity of the fluid
- ρ = density of the fluid
Examples
Example 1:
Find the density of the fluid if the kinematic viscosity of the fluid is 11 m2/s-1 and the dynamic viscosity is 55 Ns/m2.
Solution:
Step 1: Write the data carefully from the given situation.
ν = 11, μ = 55, ρ =?
Step 2: Write the formula of the density with detail.
ρ = μ/v
Step 3: Put the values in the above formula and simplify.
ν =11, μ = 55
ρ = μ/v
ρ = 55/11
ρ = 5 kg/m3
Example 2:
Find the density of the fluid if the kinematic viscosity of the fluid is 15 m2/s-1 and the dynamic viscosity is 105 Ns/m2.
Solution:
Step 1: Write the data from the given situation.
ν = 15, μ = 105, ρ =?
Step 2: Write the formula of the density.
ρ = μ/v
Step 3: Put the values in the above formula and simplify.
ν =15, μ = 105
ρ = μ/v
ρ = 105/15
ρ = 7 kg/m3
