What is meant by the download time?

Download time gives information about the time taken by the file to transfer from a server or downloader system in your device (computer, phone, and tablet) at the selected location. Files in the form of different shapes or sizes such as files, documents, images, videos, software, or any other content.

Download Time in seconds = File Size in bits / Download Speed in bits per second

The factor that impacts the download time is the speed of your internet connection and the size of the selected file. If the speed of the internet better then the file download in a few minutes or seconds depending on its size. For example with a 155 Mbps connection, you can download 155 megabits of data per second.

The size of the file you are downloading directly relates to the download time. Larger files take time to transfer while smaller files are fastly to download. The amount of traffic on your internet service provider's network can also affect download time.

How to find the download time?

Example 1:

Find the time when the file size is 625 Bits and the download speed is 5 bits/second.

Solution

Download Time in seconds = File Size in bits / Download Speed in bits per second

Download Time in seconds = 625/5

Download Time in seconds = 5 × 5 × 5 × 5/5

Download Time in seconds = 5 × 5 × 5

Download Time in seconds = 125

Example 2:

Find the time when the file size is 1024 Bits and the download speed is 2 bits/second.

Solution

Download Time in seconds = File Size in bits / Download Speed in bits per second

Download Time in seconds = 1024/2

Download Time in seconds = 2×2×2×2×2×2×2×2×2×2/2

Download Time in seconds = 2×2×2×2×2×2×2×2×2

Download Time in seconds = 512
