Example 1:

Find the X & Y-intercept of the problem where A = 4, B = 5, C = 6

Solution

Equation of Straight Line:

AX + BY = C

By putting Values in the above equation:

(4)X + (5)Y = 6 ----(i)

Put Y=0 in eq(i).

(4)X + (5)(0) = 6

(4)X + 0 = 6

(4)X = 6

X = 6 / 4

X = 1.500

Put X=0 in eq(i).

(4)(0) + (5)Y = 6

0 + (5)Y= 6

(5)Y = 6

Y = 6 / 5

Y = 1.200

(X, Y) = (1.500,1.200)

Example 2:

Find the X & Y-intercept where A = 3, B = 4, C = 5

Solution

Equation of Straight Line:

AX + BY = C

By putting Values in the above equation:

(3)X + (4)Y = 5 ----(i)

Put Y=0 in eq(i).

(3)X + (4)(0) = 5

(3)X + 0 = 5

(3)X = 5

X = 5 / 3

X = 1.667

Put X=0 in eq(i).

(3)(0) + (4)Y = 5

0 + (4)Y= 5

(4)Y = 5

Y = 5 / 4

Y = 1.250

(X, Y) = (1.667,1.250)
